Vast and panoramic, representing landcapes requires imposing some kind of order or logic on dancing colors, fractured light, and partly seen elements.
Other challenges include inclement weather, insects, and the ever changing nature of the outdoors- I once had a hawk drop a live snake on a canvas flat on the grass I was working on.
There’s a lot of joy to be had in roughly sketching out elements, then dropping in color as it leaps to the eye, and I love the challenge of resolving ever shifting parts into a coherent and satisfying whole.
